Proposal description

RED III Application Permission for development in the townland of Crory, Ferns, County Wexford. The development will consist of a modification to the permitted development (Wexford County Council Planning Ref: 20241593) for a 10-year Permission for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The proposed development comprises the following: a BESS with associated infrastructure including a new entrance and internal access road; an approximate 100 metre 33kV double circuit underground cable grid connection to the permitted Lodgewood 110kV substation (that is subject to a modification application to An Coimisiún Pleanála (Planning Ref: 324115)) to be installed in an excavated trench including underground ducting; modular office and welfare buildings; three steel storage containers and all associated site development and reinstatement works. The key design amendments of the proposed modification of the permitted development are as follows: relocation of the Battery Energy Storage System units and control units and overall reduction in the number of each; revised location for the 33kV double circuit underground cable grid connection route from the relocated Battery Energy Storage System units to the revised substation location, facilitated by a minor adjustment to the site red line boundary; new siting of the associated internal access track; revised site entrance location; and relocation of other ancillary infrastructure (modular office, welfare, storage containers, switchroom, drainage features and miscellaneous electrical equipment). A Natura Impact Statement will be submitted to the planning authority with the application. This development is covered by the provisions of the Renewable Energy Directive III (Directive (EU) 2023/2413) and it is important to note that the planning application may be subject to section 34D of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended. When a notice issues in accordance with section 34D(b), the provisions of article 26A of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 to 2025 shall apply
