Proposal description

Development of the Ulster Canal Greenway – Phase 1 scheme for approximately 3.4km in length. The proposed development works are to be located adjacent to the towpath of the Ulster Canal (with sections alongside the R189, Rooskey Vale, Old Cross Square, Canal Street, Glen Road, St. Louis Convent Grounds, Canal View Area, Oriel Way, Tom Young’s Wood and Killyconnigan Housing Area). The proposed development works are to be located at Tirkeenan, Tully, Mullaghcroghery and Killyconnigan. Principal Features of the Proposed Development The proposed scheme will comprise of the following: • Construction of 2730m of 3.5m wide bitmac path for cycling and walking provision • Installation 6m lighting columns at 25m centres over 2220m. • Construction of a 2.5m wide bike lane on Rooskey Vale. Length 170m • Construction of a 1.5m wide contra-flow bike lane on Canal Street. Length 200m • Upgrade of the existing pedestrian crossing on Glen Road to a Toucan crossing • Construction of a new Toucan crossing on the Dublin Road side of Old Cross Square • Installation of Traffic calming measures on Park Road, Oriel Way, Killyconnigan and Glen Road. • Widening 110m of footpaths on Glen Road. • Widening 50m of footpaths on Oriel Way. • Erection of approx. 915m of 2.4m high Paladin fencing • Erection of approx. 980m of 1.2m high Timber post and rail fencing. • Widening of existing Towpath under Stone Arch Bridge at Killyconnigan • Installation of 2No. CCTV Cameras at Horseshoe Bridge and Canal View. • Construction of Bridge at Tully across the Ulster Canal to facilitate Pedestrian and Cycle movements. • Removal of 18 No. Long Term Parking Spaces at Rooskey and 14 Short Term Parking Spaces on Canal Street.
