Why this application matters

Generation and grid connection

A 180MW open-cycle gas-powered peaking plant is proposed at Tullyallen and Drybridge, comprising three gas turbine generators. It would connect to the existing Drybridge 110kV AIS substation through an under-fence transformer compound and about 460m of new 33kV underground cabling.

Fuel and operational infrastructure

The scheme includes a natural-gas above-ground installation as the primary fuel supply, alongside three bunded liquid-fuel tanks and associated treatment, pumping and unloading facilities for secondary fuel. Supporting infrastructure would include a 500m³ fire-water tank and pumphouse, water-treatment plant, control facilities, maintenance building, drainage and security works.

Access and construction works

Access arrangements include a permanent entrance from the L20000 Slane Road, a realigned N51 field access and temporary changes to two accesses from the L-2322. Horizontal directional drilling beneath the N51 would use launch and reception compounds, with five temporary construction compounds also proposed.

Environmental and safety context

The application is accompanied by a Natura Impact Statement. The proposed activity requires an Environmental Protection Agency licence under the Industrial Emissions Directive and would be a lower-tier COMAH establishment, with biodiversity areas and fire-protection measures included in the scheme.
