Why this application matters
Energy storage proposal
A battery energy storage system of up to 20MW peak is proposed on a 2.02-hectare site in the townland of Loan, near Castlecomer. The installation is designed for a 40-year operational life.
Site infrastructure
The scheme includes 32 battery units, eight transformers, a control room, switchgear, storage container, water tanks, underground cabling, security fencing, CCTV, lighting, access tracks and landscaping.
Solar-farm connection
A 33kV underground cable would link the on-site switchgear to the substation serving the adjacent solar farm, creating a direct connection between the storage facility and existing solar infrastructure.
Access arrangement
Access would use an existing point from the R426 southeast of the site, upgraded to accommodate safe vehicle entry and exit.
