Proposal description

Permission for development at a site at lands at Tivoli Docks, part of the N8 at the existing Silversprings interchange access to Tivoli Docks, and part of the N8 to both the east and west of the Dunkettle/Glanmire roundabout), part of the R635 (North Ring Road) from the N8 to Silversprings Lane, the Dunkettle/Glanmire roundabout, part of Lota Brothers of Charity, and part of the R639 Glanmire Road all at Tivoli, Cork. Permission is sought for a 10 year duration. The development will consist of multi-modal (vehicular, bus and active travel) transport access enabling infrastructure comprising two access points to Tivoli Docks. One access will comprise a new grade separated multi-modal junction over the N8 dual carriageway and the Cork to Cobh/Midelton railway line to provide access into the eastern part of the Tivoli Docks and revised N8 junction arrangements with the R639 Glanmire Road, which will include the replacement of the existing Dunkettle roundabout (also known as the Glanmire Roundabout), new ramp connections and traffic signals between the N8 and the R639 Glanmire Road and Tivoli Docks, revisions to the existing N8 access and egress points to the Lota Brothers of Charity lands, and provision of a new additional one-way access to the Lota Brothers of Charity (which is a protected structure), involving the removal of part of a boundary wall. The second access will comprise a multi-modal upgrade of the existing N8 interchange at Silversprings including the existing entrance into Tivoli Docks to provide new access arrangements into Tivoli Docks and to provide new traffic signals and lane configurations at the northern side of the Silversprings interchange at the R635 North Ring Road. The proposed development will provide for multi-modal access at both access points and connections to existing and proposed active travel routes, landscaping works, surface water drainage, directional road signage, public lighting and all associated site development works, all on a site of 17.7 ha. An Environmental Impact Assessment Report and a Natura Impact Assessment have been prepared for the proposed development and form part of the application.
