Proposal description

Uisce Éireann intends to apply to Cavan County Council for a 10-year planning permission for works to upgrade the Cootehill Wastewater Treatment Plant located in the townland of Magheranure in the Electoral Division of Cootehill, County Cavan. The proposed development consists of: (1) New Inlet Works including a Dual Function Overflow Chamber, an Inlet Pumping Station, Screens, and Grit removal units; (2) New Dual Function Overflow outfall pipe connection from the new Wastewater Treatment Plant Inlet Works to a new single combined outfall to the Dromore River (Dromore_070). This combined outfall will also facilitate the treated effluent; (3) Refurbishment of the 2 No. existing Aeration Tanks into Storm Water Holding Tanks including a Stormwater Overflow outfall pipe connection to the existing outfall to the Dromore River (Dromore_070); (4) Proposed new open tank process units, including below and above ground pump and drainage chambers, biological reactors, and clarifiers; (5) New Sludge Import Facility including a new Inlet Works (stone trap and a screen) and the refurbishment of the existing anoxic tank into a sludge buffer tank with transfer pumps/mixers and odour extraction; (6) Sludge reed beds arranged in two sets with an overall area of approximately 5,300 square metres and a height of approximately 2.4 metres are proposed for treating indigenous and imported sludge and associated sludge distribution pipework and drainage collection pipework and valves; (7) Provision of chemical storage tanks and dosing equipment for phosphorus removal and alkalinity boosting; (8) Provision of 2 No. of Motor Control Centre kiosks and refurbishment of the existing admin building; (9) Provision of carbon filter units for odour control including above ground ductwork; (10) Provision of a new Electricity Supply Board substation and generator; (11) Demolition of the existing tanks and structures not used in the future design (i.e., inlet works, storm tank, settlement tank, tertiary treatment, kiosk housing the sludge pumps, picket fence thickener, return pump sump, and chemical tank etc); (12) Provision of a potable booster kiosk and break tank; (13) Extension of internal access roads and provision of turning areas; and (14) Ancillary works: (a) Access platforms; (b) Provision of a back-up generator with a built-in diesel tank to be used in an emergency/power cut; (c) Provision of paved/pebble area within the site; (d) landscaping works
